Last month I purchased 300 sq/ft of Kempas wood from metropolitan Hardwood Floors, Inc. The order went very smooth and I actually received the shipment early. Yesterday I planned on beginning the installation, but when I opened the boxes I was surprised at how different the wood was from the original sample. I have worked with hardwoods before and I understand that its a natural product and colors and grains will differ, but the sample we saw was a very dark chocolate color and the wood we received was very blond to tan in color. I just spoke with a Metropolitan Hardwood sales person and he said that the wood is considered hyper sensitive, and that in 6 months the color will change to match the original sample as it seasons.
At this point I need to decide if I am going to return the product or stick it out and see if the color will change. Has anyone had any experience working with Kempas wood? Will the color change be that drastic?? Thanks everyone!

I recently installed Kempas flooring, and was also suprised to see how much lighter it came out of the box. When we asked the retailer they gave us the same line that the wood will darken? I would be suprised if does indeed darken to the point of the sample, but time will tell.

Hi! We are considering kempas for the floor in our new house and looking for first-hand opinions. Now I see your messages were from March this year. How is time telling you about the color change of kempas? Thank you very much for any hints.

I installed 800 sq. ft. of Kempas almost a year ago and have experienced no color change. The room is not in direct sunlight.
