I've got a Denon reciever (DRA 625) , at least 15 years old, the right channel will often go dead. Turning the volume control up loud (at least halfway) will make that channel come on right away and work normally; if left alone it will eventually come back on its own. Any ideas? Thanks. I tried contact cleaner on the volume control, no joy, although the control is fairly well encased and hard to spray into

I have DRA-435 (slightly newer and less nice) and it is starting to do something very similar, but only as very low volumes. These are decent units if all you need is 2 channel, I would try to fix it if possible. I'm not sure what causes this, have you tried messing with the balance control to see if that might be the issue?

I would bet the volume pot is going bad. Since they are cheap and easy to replace, I would try that first before doing anything else. A lot of hi quality pots are almost completely sealed so the contact cleaner may not be able to get in there, if you can take it apart, you may have to, but you can probably get a suitable replacement for a few bucks.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. The denon volume control has a motor on it for remote control, but I could try a generic one first to troubleshoot before hunting for the denon control

Do you know what the specs are on the motorized pot? I have seen 50K duel Alps models selling for about 6 bucks. The motorized ones are more expensive then "normal" pots, but if you look in the right place you can still find them pretty cheap.

I have a Denon as well. The rear speakers would not come on. I sent it back litterally 3 times to their "authorize" service centers. Each time costing my $$ to send it back. I consider myself to be somewhat savy of audio equipment and the guy had the nerve to techobabble me and blame me for blowing it out! Saying my speakers had differernt imepdance, ohms, etc. The nerve! I finally got fed up and call the Service Manager at Denon and went through the same thing w/me. Finally he offered to pick up the receiver at N/c and repair it under warranty. Heck it was only a month old and I sent it back 3 times! Finally they replaced the amp and all is well. My two cents: Denon was great in the past...but it's over priced and not worth it anymore. Staying w/ Sony from now on. We're not alone! :wall:
