Hello,

Purchased a 6 year old house with a Hampton Bay Ceiling fan with light fixture in the Master Bedroom. The Fan is connected to a wall switch, the light fixture to another wall switch. However, when you walk in the room, you need to first, turn on the wall switch, then use the Fan Remote control, supplied with the fan, before the light will come on. Is there a way to re-wire where the light will come on all the time with wall switch. I cannot find any Hampton Bay wiring diagrams. I am capable of re-wiring if someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks

Dan :D

It's the price you pay for the remote control. You may either: Remove the remote receiver from the fan, remake the fan connections, and throw away both the remote receiver and transmitter, or Leave the wall switch on at all times and exclusively use the remote transmitter.

Well, you don’t have to toss the whole unit away; you can just unhook the part that controls the lighting and leave the part that controls the fan hooked up.

It’s been years since I last installed a remote control unit in a fan, so I can't really remember the wire colors, it should be pretty straight forward though. Just find the wire coming from the lights (if I remember correctly, it should be red) and unhook it from the receiver then hook it directly to the hot (black) wire in the box.

Of course, the light button will no longer work on your remote, but you should now be able to control it via the wall switch.
