I have primed the frames on the cabinets with oil bassed primmer and I had a test piece I did awhile ago with latex primer and latex top coat--I wanted to see what would happen when I washed the cabinet--the paint came right off! I had used Glidden primer (Gripper) that I had...So my concern is now that I have used a really good oil base primer (Zinssers Cover Stain)and want to use a Latex (Sherwin Williams) for the final coat, is the same thing going to happen when I decide to wash them down...can this be avoided using a latex or should I turn to oil base for top coat as well? How many coats are recomemded?
Long Project--I want it to be worth it in the end :wall:

SWP latex should be fine but I highly recomend their proclassic waterborne enamel. It dries as hard as oilbase without the odor plus it doesn't yellow like oilbase usually does. It will probably take 2 coats but your eye is your best judge.

Is it necessary to Polyurathane kitchen cabinets after you paint them. I have heard of some people doing this. What are the benefits and what if you don't?
