Any quick tips on how I can easily dismantle my Sears Kenmore gas cooktop,
model 911.3378814 to get to the spark module igniter? I seem to be able to
get the unit to start to part but I am missing something and do not want to create a bigger problem. I have the schematic to the unit I can scan and e-mail. This is my first post to this forum.

Hello Wolfpod. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

There is no quick tips for disassembly. You will more than likely have to remove the entire cooktop from the counter it is installed in. Than turn it over, upside down, carefully remove the bottom sheet metal cover the top is attached to.

Like all such units, it is mass assembled on an assembly line. Therefore, the cooktop will have to be disassembled in reverse order in which it was assembled. May be a good idea to purchase a service manual.

May be possible to bring entire unit to any local appliance repairs and/or parts store where store personal may or may not be willing to install the part for you and save you the travel time expense and/or show you how to access the part, etc.

Read the manufacturers online web site for product information, problem possibilities, causes, solving methods, part locations, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair procedures, pictorials, schematics, downloadable repair and or owners manuals, which may be available online.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be also. They will need the make, model an serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.

***Be sure the electrical power to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs. Always check for gas leaks whenever the appliance is moved and/or a repair includes any connection of a gas part.
