We Sanded the cabinet doors and framework (not quite as thoroughly). About eight months later we began to see some bubbles on the framework.

It is possible wax or grease was left on the surface. That is the main reason I always recomend wiping with deglosser before painting. Also it softens the old finish for better bonding. I would say your only solution now entails a lot of sanding.
