I'm hoping you guys know what i'm talking about so hear goes got a 3.5hp tecumseh motor i rebuilt the carb for the guy ran fine for about have the summer and just stoped and would not crank back the carb. is fine but the problem is iwas looking at the govener on it there's a long piece that the spring and throttle hooks to and at the bottom of the long piece there's a clip that has a screw in one side and i thought on the other side of the clip there was supose to be a little rod that runs from that clip to the inside of the motor to the govener gear as you give it gas that rod is supose to push down on that gear which in turn is supose to speed up the motor but there's no rod in this one there's a hole there does all these motors have to have this rod in it the hole dose'nt look like it has been leaking oil out of it I hope you guys know what i'm talking about i really need help with this problem......thanks

Hi Sniper!
Sorry, but I can't picture what you are saying. It has no governor shaft? I've never seen a rod that pushes down on a gear to speed up an engine. Is there a way you could post a link to a pic?

Sounds like you have a governed idle engine but i've never seen one on a 3 1/2 engine. Post back with the model and spec numbers of the engine.

Yes, every factory, small engine will have a governor system. Most, as well as yours, has an internal governor set-up. The clip you're referring to is a press fit utilizing a "spring-tab" arrangement for retainment on the governor shaft (which goes into the engine's sump). This governor is adjustable by way of the governor arm (attached by way of the screw you mentioned) to the clip. Loosen (slightly) the screw, hold the throttle wide open, rotate the clip counterclockwise, tighten the screw. Note that this usually never changes unless the operator messes with such and I would say the carb is not OK.

the reason why i ask is i thought it was supose to have one but this one don't it's either fell out or broke somehow i work on this stuff alot well trying to learn let's put that but never run into this problem so i guess the motor will have to come apart now he won't like that he may could go by a new one for the time and money well the time anyway thank's for the help guy's you all always have good advice keep up the good work
