I'm hoping to install hardwood flooring in living room and kitchen.
The floor is bowed up a bit the entire legth over one of the support beams.
The beam is supported by steel teleposts.
What should be considered in re-levelling this beam so that Ican install the flooring on a perfectly flat surface?
so you are saying the beam has probably been jacked up at some time, and now the floor over it is higher than the rest of the floor?

Actually I think that the floor is still sagging where the jacks are at. If that's the case, what you need to do is slowly crank those jacks up to bring the beam back to level with the rest of the floor. Slowly is the key thing, you should raise them like 1/2 to 1 turn every couple of weeks until the floor is level. That is assuming that the jacks are set up on a solid slab. If the basement isn't a solid slab floor in good condition, then it may be necessary to dig out and pour some footings so the jacks are standing on a firm base that won't sink when the load is put on the jacks.
