I want to put down self adhesive vinyl floor tiles in my kithen. Right now there is lynolium over subflooring(non-foam backed). Can I just lay the new tiles over the old lynolium or does it have to come up? It seems that the old lynolium would make it a better, cleaner, and smoother surface to work with.
If I can leave the old lynolium down, what should I clean or prepare it with?

Hello & wecome to the forums.
Make sure that there's now wax on the floor and it's real clean. Mop it with a detergent, then rise 2-3 times with clean fresh water each time. Allow to thoroughally dry and your peel & stick tiles should stick fine. Good luck.

be creful to make sure that if there is an embossed pattern in the linoleum it wont come thru on the tile. If you truly have linoleum it should be flat and you wil not have this problem.
