I am trying to do my stairs with hardwood (Brazilian cherry). My question is whether to put the nosing on top the existing one, or should I cut out the existing nosing ?

Are you doing the steps and risers in the new wood as well? ..Im thinking that if you're just replacing the nosing, adding the new on the old nosing would sit higher than the step.
If you're building up the step and risers, I presume your new step will exceed the old nose...and would that produce a clean edge.
Initially, Im thinking - remove the old nose, add your steps to the edge, then replace with new nose...
