Hello all,
I have a two story, full-unfinished basement (planning on finishing it) 40 year old house. The supporting floor joints and the central beam has a lot of termite damage. I was told I need to replace all the joints and the beam asap. Any suggestions on how to do it? I was planning on raising the floors and then taking out damaged wood and then putting new joints in. Does anyone have experience in replacing the joints? Any ideas how long the whole process might take? What kind of tools I need? Are there any websites that might have this info?
Thank you very much,

Vaida

Hello and welcome to the forums.

First thing what you're talking about are called joists, not joints. So now we're using the correct terminology. Next thing before we go any further, what are your carpentry skills like? This is a pretty major project and not something I'd recommend for a novice diyer.

Here's one good link that fully explains the process, but like I say it's not a job for everyone to try on their own.Replacing floor joists (http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/replacing_a_timber_floor.htm)

Thanks for a reply. Yes, I misspelled the word. Thanks for the correction.
I would not do the project myself. Gosh no! Would not mess with that. I would hire someone, but I was just curious what the process is and how long it takes. The website is very helpful. Thank you again!!!
