Here is my problem. Our basement was finished, but on our outside walls we had water comming in for awhile there was mold so we took all the drywall off. We dried up the basement and driloced it. also filled all cracks with filler. The leaks were't to bad so I thought we would be fine BUT we were'nt. There was snow up aginst the house from shoveling. I'm not sure this is the problem, but every time I dry clothes in the drier the snow melts by the vent and I get water near where drier vent isthat goes into the basement near the corner where drier vent is. The rest of the basement so far has not leaked any more. Of course spring is not here in Erie co. yet either. So should We try to vent the air up instead of down? Is there a vent system tha t vents up? thanks to anyone who replys crystal90

crystal90,
Unsure if you are referring to water coming through the concrete below the vent or is water coming through the wall where the vent is located?
Turning the vent to face up would be worse that having it directed down. Not a good thought as it does 2 things -
1. Prevents the damper at the outside vent to freely move as it was intended.
2. Will be a catch all for the snow or rain and then what will you have?
Best advice is to ensure that you have properly caulked around the vent pipe and shovel some snow.
Hope this helps!

You can get drier vents that blow straight out rather than down. All the big home stores have them, they are the same size as a down blowing vent but they sit flush against the house and have 4 or 5 little flaps that open up when the drier blows.
