My master bath is quite outdated, I have 4x4 tiles in the whole shower area and want to replace them with 12x12 stone tiles. There are no loose tiles now, and I know I can tile over them, but the old tiles have hard water residue on them and Ive tried everything to get it off and still shows..will this make the thinset not adhere as well? Any other notes? I know I need to caulk around the edges and grout (sanded or non?) and leave what type of gap? Any tiles to stay away from or will I have to seal any smooth surfaced tile?

Thanks!
