I have a hard time getting my relative humidity past 20% with my Aprilaire 700. I realize that it is not running long enough due to the fact that the house reaches my preset temp and then the system shuts down. So, can I run the humidifier with the fan only and not damage the system or harm the ducts? I was told that running the humidifier without the heat on would create a moisture problem in my duct work. Is this true?

Id say run it. I know lots of people that have the blower set up for 24/7 . where the humidifier will come on if called for. When the heat does come on it will pick up any moisture there in the duct for sure.

It will only work if you use hot water to feed you humidifier. If you use cold water the furnace has to be running to get the water to evaporate. Also, you might have to change how your humidifier is connected to your furnace. My furnace has a direct humidifier connection, but it only has power when the heat is on. To get my humidifier to work with the fan only, I had to switch the connection to the EAC (Electronic Air Cleaner) supply. Just something else for you to think about.
