I am thinking about buying a table saw, specifically a craftsman model 24883. Does anybody have any opinions on this particular saw?
The description of the saw from craftsman is:
Leg set included for convenient Cutting Height and wobble resistance
Casters included mount to the bottom of the stand for convenient mobility
On-board dust collection collects dust for a clean work area
Rear out feed support for added rear work place support
Adjustable T-slotted miter gauge
Quick release, self-aligning Rip Fence
Cuts 3 in. depth at 90 degrees and 2-1/2 in. depth at 45 degrees
On/off switch with removable locking key
here's the link:

Thanks

Do you have any problems keeping the rip fence aligned? When you use the extensions?
I had also heard some craftsman table saws (but nothing about this one specifically) were prone to kick back. Do you think this saw is apt to kick back?
Thanks,

Kickbacks, 99% of the time happen because of the user doing something wrong. If your fence is parallel with the blade, tightened down properly, and the user is safe, there should be no reason why a kickback should ever happen.
When it's happened to me, it was because I was doing one of the following:
Too tired, too fast, not paying attention by being distracted or got too comfortable.
I've only had one bad kickback that knocked me back a few feet and believe me, one is all it takes. Mine happened on a 220 volt saw and there was no stopping the piece. At least with most Craftsman or maybe all being 110 volt, you have a better chance of the blade stopping before the piece comes flying back.
I firmly believe a table saw is only as good as the quality of the fence. You can have a 5hp 220 volt saw, but if you have a junky fence, the saw is no good. If you have the funds, spend it on a better quality saw or buy a higher end saw "within" the craftsman line.

That fense looks pretty good, as does the price.
Too bad (for me) its USD$.
Im using a 1950's Craftsman..fense is outdated..and never had kickback...fortunately. But my Dad did once. Broke his thumb!

hi
nerver had kickback and the fence is well secure and the extension are fine.
As for any tool if you pry you will get kickback does not matter what saw your using.
Practice makes perfect.
good luck

It sure helped me! I've been looking at that exact Craftsman for some time now. Then I saw that new Tradesman. I always thought they were comparable, never looked closely enough to see they were the same! I was going to buy the Craftsman due to the casters, but for the price, I'm sure I can put some on the other one.
THanks!
