hi all--
i'm new to the tile section, but have found literally 100's of helpful answers to the rest of my reno' project in the other forums.
i am now at the point where i am ready to floor my 5 x 9 bathroom (approximately 6' of floor)
the floor is 3/4" ply subfloor glued and screwed (every 4"), which is over tji 360's at 16" oc (with one extra in between the two middle joists for added support).
i'm wondering if i can install the tile directly to the subfloor or is that not advised?
and
what is the best tile size to use?
my old apartment had what i think was like 2" tile flooring....
any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thank you,
--j

Hardibacker makes the claim you can put their cement board over 3/4" ply. I would do that at the very least. Setting on ply is risky business, you will get a much better bond to the cement board. You can go with small mosaic up to 12" porcelain.

Like TGB says, you need to strengthen your floor.
As far as tile size, pick what you like :coffee:

If you go with a larger tile size like 12" it will make your bathroom floor space look bigger.
