I have 11ft wall in my kitchen. I'd like to know what is the best height for my kitchen cabibets. Eg. Should I have a bulk head or a gap between the top of cabinets to ceiling. What options do I have?

Standard wall cabinets are 30"
Standard height of the top of wall cabinet is 7'
Standard height of bottom wall cabinet to counter top is no less than 17"
The most important part of those statments is the 17" clearnce above the counter top for work room. As far as having a bulk head or a space, is totally up to you, what look do you prefer. Personally, and don't take this for more than it is, I would not like the look of a 4' bulk head above cabinets. If you are decent at woodworking, than you can just top off the cabinets with some crown moulding, which could all be less expensive, the same, or more expensive than a bulk head depending on the liner foot of cabinets and the material of crown moulding. If you do decied to go with the bulk head, and do not plan on putting up any moulding (just butting the cabinets up to the bulk head) make darn sure that the bulk head is level though out the cabinet area, if you are off by even a 1/8 it will be noticable (without any top moulding)
Of corse with 11 foot ceilings, you can also order taller cabinets, which will run you more money and would mostly be for aesteicics as the taller you go the more hassel to reach them....hope this info helps, and good luck!

I would leave the space, order 42" cabinets and put a 3-1/2 to 4-1/4" crown on them. Make sure you can put the same molding on all the rest of the cabinets.
There are fancier ways to finish off the top side of a 42" cabinet, but it also requires a bit of skill in the woodworking trade.
