I'm just starting to think about remodeling my bathroom, which is 5 by 8 feet. Tiny! I've been using some floor plan design software and I've just gone nuts with it, trying all kinds of different arrangements. I'm thinking now that I'd like the bathroom a lot better if virtually everything in it were in a different place. So my question is, how easy/difficult/impossible would it be to put the toilet where the sink is, the tub where the toilet is, etc. Would I have to tear down a whole wall to do it? Is it even possible to reroute all the plumbing?

Thanks!
Lisa

Your dwelling has a basement, a crawl space is on a slab and this bathroom is on the 2nd floor or in the basement?

Will will not stop with just the walls, you will be looking at tearing out parts of the floor also.

As far as if it is possible, that depends. The vent location for the toilet will be kinda critical as well as for the new lav location.

You do know there are minimum requirements for fixture locations so you may want to look these requirements. It may affect future sale of the house.

Ask more questions and someone will answer them...good luck with your project.

i have a one-story house and I don't have a basement, but I do have a crawlspace, so I can get under there and probably shift some pipe around.

You need to ask your build code department what plumbing code you fall under. The different codes have tremendous differences in drain allowances on the developed lengths. This will be critical to you for moving the toilet.

You should also check into a building permit which protects the value of your property. People get upset about "having to follow the code because I'm just doin' the plumbin", but what they don't realize is a proper job increases the value of the property. Yeah, it can be a pain in the *ss, but you will be miles ahead at some point in the future.

Get back with us on the proper code and then well can answer specific questions.

Good luck and have fun with your pipes...
