I installed wallpaper on my walls about 8 yrs. ago. I cut the wallpaper at the ceiliing joint with a razor knife. I have now removed the wallpaper to paint the walls and found I cut through the joint paper on ceiling joint, about 10ft. and one corner from ceiling to floor. The joints are in otherwise good shape, no other cracks from shifting etc. The ceiling is textured. Can I repair this with non shrinking patch, or will I have to retape the joints? This would be difficult with the textured ceiling and smooth walls. Thanks for any help.

I believe you could cheat and just caulk it.

I suggest skimming the cut area with some quick set, technically speaking it should be retaped, but if it hasn't had any problems for that long other than this accidental damage, you should be ok to repair as I suggested. Good luck.

if you use the quick setting mud make sure you use the easysand version the other [durabond] will be trouble. I think a good paintable caulk will be fine though. If you go with the caulk make sure you make as much of a 90 degree angle as possible it will be much easier to paint and you will get a straighter line at the ceiling wall joint.

Sure you can caulk it, if you don't mind doing it again in a year.

I just thought that caulk would be more flexable than a skim coat of untaped quick setting mud and would therefore be less likely to crack. I am still kinda leaning that way-- a lot. I thought that this is pretty much why they make caulk. The house is at least 8 yrs old [probably way more] and all done moving. I would however use a very good flexable caulk. I never meant to suggust a $.99 tube. Here is a quote from the polyseamseal site

http://www.polyseamseal.com/1001uses.asp?cat=Interi

"Inside corners of drywall can be troublesome for amateurs. I’ve found that if you fit the drywall panels close, then use Polyseamseal to seal the corner, it’s done ! A nice cove is created with a wet finger, let dry, and paint.Always have liked using the best materials, is it really cheaper if you need to re-do something because the products you used failed ? That’s why I look for Polyseamseal"

take it For what its worth.

After re-reading the original post, I stand corrected. I think I was answering two different posts at the same time or else talking to a the design guys on tv when I replied earlier.

You could use a good caulk in this case and it would be easier, especially with the textured ceiling. I was thinking originally that this was a butt joint instead of the corner, my bad.

Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes. I sometimes get several things going on at once around here and get crossed up, especially lately. Spring should get here any day now & that'll help. :coffee:

thanks for reply awsomedell. I Thought I was losing it man. Glad to see you are not as tempermental as some when they are disagreed with. I can definitely see how you would get confused. You do a great job.

I assume the reply was referring to my previous post. and not marksr who had the same idea.

Naw I got thick skin, and I've made way worse bone head plays than that in my day joneq. Actually you were both right, I just misread the original post. You did right keeping me on my toes!

I was trying to be gentle. I have been a bad boy lately. Didn't want to risk another pm.
