Greetings,
I have a home theater setup that occasionally loses video. The sound stays, however the video will flicker off. The current setup is a Samsung 50" DLP TV and a Sony SONSTRDE597 A/V Receiver. I have the component video running from my cable set-top box through the receiver into the TV.
Occasionaly the vide will drop out leaving just the sound. I am pretty sure it is not the TV as the on-screen menus supplied by the TV work fine. If I turn the receiver off and then turn int back on, the video comes back? The receiver states that it is equiped to handle HD signal, and I am using decent quality Monster component cables from both set-top box to receiver then to the TV.
I guess I could hook the component cable from the set-top directly to the TV, but I like the idea of being able to switch to DVD on receiver and not have to adjust the TV input as well...
Any ideas?

Havent watched any DVD's in awhile. Ever since we got DVR we always have something we want to watch...I think I will try wiring the component from the STB directly to the TV and see if the issue pops up again.

Try this instead:
0. Reseat all component cables. If the problem persists, goto 1.
1. Swap the component cables between the DVD player and the DVR. If the problems persists, those cables are not the problem.
2. Then plug the DVR into the DVD player input on the receiver. If the problem peersists, the receiver is probably not the problem.
3. Plug the DVR directly into the TV using the DVD-reciver component cable we know is good. If the problem persists, the problem is with the TV or the DVR. If it goes away, the cable originally between the TV and receiver was the problem. Bad cable or bad terminations.
3a. You can try plugging the DVR into a different TV input to try and determine if one of the TV inputs is bad.

That sounds pretty good, at least it will cover all of my bases. I will give this a try this week, its tough because the issue is rather sporadic.
Thanks for the advice!
