3 year old maytag "plus" fridge, with water and ice dispencer keeps frosting up. the freezer and fridge are side by each. I have to defrost it every 3 weeks or so, once the fridge goes loses its cool, I know it is time to defrost. This thing makes some awfull "gurgling" sounds. But I have gotten over those. I have tried several different things, like having the freezer temp on 1 and the fridge temp on 10. I have checked the fan in the freezer, and it is working. The only other thing that I can think of is the temp gages are not working and it is stuck on a certain temp.

If you wanna try to fix it look at the 2 temps switches one will go to a t stat the other will either open a mechanical lever to let more air into fridge or it may have a mechanical opening switch that is either stuck or broken. The way you test this you turn switch to lowest setting this should close the switch then turn switch to highest setting the little door should slide open all the way.If your lucky you won't have this mechanical door cause it sucks. The problem will be in the defrost system you have to remove panel in freezer and check to see if defrost timer works when you turn it to defrost mode. If it doesn't you have to ohm out heater, bi metal(is wired in series with heater element) unplug fridge to do this and remove one conductor check ohms. Really helps if you know how a fridge electrical circuit operates and function of parts. The kick plate on front bottom has electric drawings behind it if needed.
