I've had problems with the filter cartridge on my Franke Little Butler hot/cold water filtration system. Once a couple of years ago we awoke to find the cartridge shattered, casing and ceramic filter in pieces, and water shooting out everywhere. A plumber told us it was probably because we had too much water pressure coming into the house. We had a pressure gauge or something to control the pressure installed at that time.
Now, some four years later, we awoke to find the outside casing had come off the ceramic filter and again water was everywhere. This time no one seems to know what caused it.
I had heard from a contractor that Franke had had to redesign the filter cartridges--something to do with the treads not working properly. I should add that I have not successfully changed the filter and have had to call a plumber to do it each time, not exactly cost effective.
I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who might have a sense of what could possibly be wrong. Obviously, we are going to change our filter system but I'd still like to understand the problem. Our plumber seems not to have a clue, though he has told us that others have had similar cartridge problems, not floods, just difficulty getting the right fit.

veeknee,

This is a filter issue and we have a topic for that. Best to place the question in the right topic.

I will move this posting to there.

good Luck!

When I went to replace the Franke filter I was so astounded by the price and the short time it had lasted that I replaced it with what I have elsewhere in the house: the GE Smartwater System. A few fittings from Home Depot and I was ready. Filters are easy to replace and cost $25 for the 0.5 micron filters for drinking.

My problem is the instant hot water tank has started to leak after just a few years of use. I have traced it to a leaky rubber tube inside the housing. Since it is within the 5 year guarantee I hope to get a replacement, either the unit or the part. Any one else with this problem?

This Triflow unit was expensive, recommended by the plumber. Never again.
