Our 1950s fixer upper has about 7 coats of paint on the every wall. I'm going to re-texture all walls and then prime and paint. The current layer of paint looks to be a semi gloss latex. Question: Do we need to sand the finish of this layer before texturing, or can we just lay down a good primer, then texture. If so, what should we look for in a primer. Any tips or suggestions much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would sand the paint first for maximum adhesion.

Lightly sand to provide key or tooth.
Wash with TSP and clear water rinse.
What you will want to look for in a primer is a "bonding" type.

Wash first with Soilax pro=no rinse[in the paint store not depot] then sand if you want you don't have to. Then use Zinsser bullseye 123 read the label this product will stick to clean glass.
