Hi all,
I want to buy two exhaust fans for one medium sized bathroom and one big bathroom (with jacuzzi). Anybody have any ideas where to go (just Home Depot/Lowes), what brands to look out for, and which are good, and which ones are quiet but still suck a lot of air?
Any help is appreciated... quietness and airflow are most important, but obviously quality of the product is paramount. We just need a fan, not a fan/light combination.
Thanks!

nutone is very popular so is broan and fantech. Why not get 1 fan that can be operated for both bathrooms. This would be located away from either bathroom. They are virtually silent because they are not directly above a bathroom. They have 2 suction lines and 1 exhaust.

I like the idea of that, but I want to have each bathroom ventilated individually... thus, I want a switch in both bathrooms. I don't think this is possible with the single unit from anybody, so I think I may opt for two different CFM models and pull the air from a single bathroom instead of both at the same time.
Fantech is high on my list though.

yea you would think they could have some kind of gate or something, but go with the remote location. It is a little scary when you go into someones bathroom and you don't hear a fan though  .he he!!!!

Yea, definately going with the remote location.
Question is though.... how much does it cost to install (roughly)? I would try it myself, but I do not want to touch electricity (I have this thing....) and I don't really have the time.
Thanks for your help!

is there a fan or ceiling light in there already

There's a ceiling light... I was thinking to get the ceiling light that is available as a vent from Fantech, to replace that light. Would probably be the easiest way anyways :)
Either that, or we will just add a vent in the bathroom and replace the light with something else. Either way, that light is going to go, because it's hideous.

If you replace the light with a light + vent it is not remote and will be at least a little noisy, unless they have one that has the fan remote with the light for the br. I'm not an electrician so I don't know how much it costs but it is a relatively simple thing to do.. The wires are already there. All that needs to be done is to switch the light to the fan light and attach the vent to the outside. There was someone who posted with a poblem of water dripping from the fan. They had the vent out the roof like inthe pictur on fantech site[ I hate that site soooo slow, for me anyway even with high speed cable]. I would opt for the soffit vent if I were you.

The way I understood it, is that the light will be on its own switch -- the fan will be separate. It's just a specific light that's designed to accomodate the flow of air into the pipe above.
I am going to go to Grainger later today and see what I find out.

well now you are talking about more money. They might[might not]have to change the box and run a different wire from the attic that will accomidate 2 switches. It is not the worst thing to have the fan on while the bathroom light is on, but it does cost money to run and you will loose heat. Maybe someone in the electrical forum could help with the pricing. It would help to know what part of the country or the world for that matter you are from.
There are double switches that will fit into the box you have if it is big enough and it probably is, but you will need a 3 wire cable to add the switch black, red ,white, and bare. At least as far as I know.

I'll explain how I want it set up... the bathrooms are far apart from one another, so just keep that in mind. Both are each on opposite ends of the house.
I want Bathroom A (small bathroom, single sink, tub and toilet) to get a remote mounted attic exhaust fan, with a vent inside the bathroom to vent out steam. There is a light in the center of the bathroom, which I figured I could remove, and put a vented light that works with the Fantech system. That light would ideally (and that's the key word, tell me if I'm wrong) work on its own switch. I hit the switch, it turns on/off. The exhaust would be a separate switch. This way the exhaust doesn't run every time I turn the light on. That light for the bathroom is what pretty much lights the bathroom, so there has to be a light there.
The question is now, whether I should get the vented light (and hope it works as I want) or just place a vent inside the bathroom up to the exhaust fan.
You mentioned a certain kind of vent, I was not sure what that's for.... I just need a hole in the ceiling to get to the exhaust fan.
