I have a ten year old Magic Chef Range/Oven (model number 6898XRB)that has a black glass top. The oven temperature is not working (you have to set the temp over 100 degrees to get close to the correct temperature) so I purchased online a new thermostat. The thermostat looks like a big transistor and I think it is installed under the glass top, but I do not know how to lift the top off. Does the whole top part of the stove just lift up from the front (with thick proping wires to hold it up) like old gas stoves used to do? Am I all wrong about where the thermostat is and how to get to it?
Any guidance would be most helpful, and thanks.

I got brave and tried just prying the front of the top off, and yes it does lift up. It has two little catches that let to once you stick a screwdriver in just underneath the top and above the controls.

Just curious, did the thermostat replacement fix your problem ?
