I just bought a replacement direct vent wall furnace. the old vent hole is about 6" lower than the new unit. Now that I've made a new hole, I have a figure 8 opening in my stucco wall. How do I fill the unwanted area. The plaster on the inside has been removed, so I have access from either side.
Been reading forum for a week or so, and it has been very informative.
Thanks to all the expert help.

What is the wall made of? Is it block, brick, or wood frame with stucco over it?

It's a wood framed wall, 2x4 construction. Not much room for backing due to a 1x6 diagonal shear brace right next to hole. Thanks........

Try to fit in a piece of plywood bigger than the hole with tar paper and then wire lath, fasten it on the inside, then go outside and patch the stucco first a scratch coat then a finish coat to match what you have.
