Does anyone have any info on getting a DVD from Europe to work on my DVD player here in the US. I have heard some stories that you can change a code on most players. Any info would be a graet help.

I have found that the cheap cheap dvd players play most anyhing. Got one for the kids and it plays more different dvd than my good one. I think what you have there is called PAL not a + or -

Ed my .02 cents :D

You need to unlock the appropriate region. That is not generally a documented feature. What dvd player are we talking about?

According to videohelp.com you have have to do some soldering to change the regionalitly if this player. Some players have the ability to change this via software.

Hi, ALL.

DVD-player Sony DVP-NS755V r1/r3/r2-Japan don,t have solderless upgrade
(Example: PDA, DESKTOP, IRC, CD-R and etc....) in
variant MULTIREGION, and NTSC and PAL-enable, and Macrovision OFF.

The modification of this player is done only through special
Sony-Data-service-cable and special firm software through plugs
On main-board (plug CN-103) and on IR-board (plug CN-405).

Best

This is very true that you can change the region either through a firmware update or through a usually hidden service menu. Although one thing to make sure is that when you are doing this that the DVD player you have has a decent NTSC <-> PAL converter chip when I was reading about some of them in the past the conversion isnt always that great but reading the reviews on videohelp will help alot with identifying ones that arent that great. Also keep in mind too that if you do unlock your player(to make it region-less)I have heard you will occasionaly have discs that will not play in it.

thanks for all the input...
I did some research and it seems the most trouble free way to do this is to buy a cheap "code free" player for my kids german dvd's....
play back quality is not a big issue for the lion king and bambi....

If your problem is Disney dvds, there is a fix for some players available. Look for a customer service number on the back of the dvd box and call it.
