Has anyone tried covering a window roller shade with fabric or wallpaper? Mine are old, but custom size. They block out all the light. Really like them but they are UGLY. Thought about maybe a gingham check (that would be a thin material) or maybe some wallpaper - Has anyone tried it?

i haven't done it, but i would think you could do it. they have kits now that come with the roller mechanism and you use your own fabrics. but i don't know the exact details, like if it's just fabric hanging there, or if it's ironed onto a backing or what. i'd go to a fabric/craft store & find one of those kits & see if you can replicate the process using your existing hardware. i would think you could just adhere a new fabric to your existing shade, but maybe there's more to it.
i would think fabric would work better than wallpaper. the paper might tend to be stiffer & not lay nice & straight & flat, or roll up as easily.

the problem with using my own fabric alone (as I have seen done) is that it would not be room darkening as my shades are now. I have not used the spray adhesive I see used on craft shows. would it work or would it be stiff?

i see. i used that spray adhesive one time when making a lamp shade. but i was adhering fabric to a plastic shade form which was sort of stiff already, so i don't know if the glue stiffened the fabric or not. i guess since you hate your shades as they are currently, you might as well experiment & see what happens. i'd still check out the directions on the shade kits first, then go from there. maybe they'll give you a hint about adhesives or some other tips.

Hi,
I was thinking about wallpapering windowblinds for a certain look. Went browsing on the web to see if I could find any tips, and found your entry. I'd like to give it a try.
Have you tried it yet?
Either way, let me know. I'd love advice if you've tried it already... If not, maybe we can figure it out together.
Hope to hear from you,
Diane
