Hi,

I am remodeling my basement.

I just finished the framing and a friend told me that I should have used PRESERVATIVE TREATED wood where-ever it touches concerete.

Now question is, is it really necessary in the basement ? Should I take everything apart and put the treated wood ?

What is the life of this wood ?

Is there any treatment I could apply after the fact ?

ChiragMehta, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
Check with your local building code office. The answer may not be that you SHOULD have used pressure treated wood but that you MUST use it. If you don't install it properly now and decide to sell later, it could be something you have to do then. Better now than later. Good luck.

Like said check code there for sure . Most of the time you just have to use P/T wood for the bottom plate is all.

I made the mistake of not using PT wood on the floor in my basement too. The local builing inspector allowed me to saws-all the nails and slip tar paper strips underneath and renail. He wasn't so concerned about the uprights against the wall.

You must have pressure treated wood against any concrete or cement. there is no preservative. Deal with it now, or you will not believe how this puppy will sneak up behind you and bite you just when you do not expect it.
