Greetings Forum Members!

My old bathroom has reached its shelf life and needs replacing. I have started to tear out the tiles and found mold/rot on the 2x4s behind them. Replacing the framework shouldnt be a problem, but my questions are

What brands of fiberglass/plastic shower inclosures would you recommend.

I have heard that using marine plywood as a backing to the enclosure would make for a better "solid sounding" shower. But the local homedepot said just to nail the enclosure to the 2x4s. Should I go with the plywood and expanding foam or not?

Third, do you need to change the plumbing if you want to change the shower faucets/fixtures?

Thanks for your advice!

Lasco, Aker, AquaGlass are to name a few......Mansfield is another.

Sterling, E.L. Mustee are a few others.

Always lay a bed of mortar down first.......you can use non-expanding foam on the sides where the studs do not touch after it is set.

I would replace all water lines that are questionable that you do not want to open walls back up years down the road.
