I am assuming I am going to have to cut this sucker in pieces to remove it. No problem, I can't wait to hack this ugly thing up. Question is: what to cut it with? How can I tell if it is acrylic or something else?
Also, I plan on taking it out and replacing it with a standard-size jacuzzi tub. They have one at Lowe's for a little over $300. Not sure of the brand. has anyone seen this tub? Any thoughts on it? What are the disadvantages of having a tub like this (jacuzzi-type)? One more in my long list of questions: Can I start taking the tub/surround out now even though I don't plan on moving in the new tub for a few weeks? I will be doing this myself and I don't think I can get everything done in one weekend. Would it be alright to have the drain, walls, floor exposed for a while before continuing with the project?

Im going to be doing the same thing with my fiberglass one piece ... a plumber told me to use a chainsaw to cut it out. As far as having the walls torn out, you face bugs and loss of insulation, drafts, and dust. You can drap a plastic tarp over the area if you wish to help reduce that. I would go over to your local book store and pick up a book on plumbing and/or home improvement. This site should help as well. I dont have any answers for you with the jacuzzi tub. I will be doing my tub probably next month, so let me know how yours is turning out! *read the thread on New Tub install: Steel or fiberglass tubs, good ideas in there*

good point with the exposed walls... I will enlist the help of friends and try to knock the project out in a weekend (or two..lol).
