Am remodelling a first-floor kitchen of a two-story house with one exterior wall, previously uninsulated. Am wondering if I should take any "special" steps to insulate the rim joist on that exterior wall inside the ceiling cavity, between the floor joists. Or will simply treating it like the rest of the wall be sufficient? The ceiling cavity will otherwise remain uninsulated, as area "above" is heated interior space. It's an 11' long wall with 12" joists 16"oc, so it's a fair amount of surface area to leak heat in/out. Thanks for any recommendations.

I would treat it like you would the rim or bond area above the basement wall.
It is an important area to insulate, in addition to cold floors, I've seen water
pipes that froze, between floors for that reason.
