Bought this a year ago, installed it in the basement fireplace.
BUT!! I am using an awful lot of pellets. I am buying the best hardwood pellets available, about $200 a skid (75bags), and I will be buying my 4th skid next week, for this heating season.
I am using just under 2 bags a day with a setting of medium.
I have to clean the unit every 2 days.
I have installed outside combustion air. This unit is completely automated, and I don't know why I am using so much fuel.
Does anyone have any suggestions.
The unit is rated for 45000 BTU.

where are you located? that is a LOT of pellets considering I use a bag about every other day.. and heat 2400 sq ' of space sufficiently.. what type unit is it? when you look at the flame, is it whipping or a soft flame? it should be tuned back to soft, then up a hair.. by soft, I mean to the point that it would cause soot, looks like no air almost.. what type pellets are they? hardwood? actually, $200 for 75 bags is a steal.. that would be aobut $133 per ton? I pay near $160 per ton out here and use nothing but Lignetic (first choice) and Pinnacle pellets (hard wood).. very low ash and hot enough that you don't have to run the stove so high to get a lot of heat.. it really sounds like settings to me, unless your pellets are really soft wood.. that would cause them to burn fast and with lots of ash..

Thanks for your reply.
I should have said $400 a skid for pellets (75bags).
I have a story and a half home, with a full basement. The unit is a fireplace insert in the basement, and is computerized.
I am running it at medium, which is fine if the temp is no more than -5C, when it gets colder, I am using an electric heater on the main floor.
I am burning premium grade hardwood pellets, made in Quebec
It doesn't seem to make any difference where I set the air for combustion, other than how it burns. If I cut back on air to much, I get alot more ash and soot on the window.
On the medium setting, my auger is running for 3 seconds, and is off for 4 seconds.
Does this seem about right to you?
I am having my 4th skid of pellets delivered tomorrow. I have burned a ton and a half since Jan 28/05, and today is Mar10/05.
I am very concerned about the amount of fuel I am using.
My home is about 720 square feet on each floor.

Ok.. that's Canadian $.. not sure what that computes to by the ton in US $.. but that's still way to many pellets to be burning.. since you have it in the basement or lower floor, heres a thought.. I had one on my base floor in my Colorado home.. I put a vent through the floor to the floor above.. just above the stove below.. and another at the opposite end of the room.. it caused a convection of heat vs cool... the heat rose through the closest vent and was replaced with the cooler air from the floors above through the other vent.. it made it so I could run my stove at a lower setting because it helped distribute the heat.. then I put in ceiling fans in the upper floors and pulled the heat back down from the ceilings to the main rooms.. but.... that still doesn't answer the question of the BIG burn.. I have no idea why, but to me that's a heck of a lot of pellets to burn in a short time.. I go through 2 tons on a really cold winter.. 3 tons and my house would be like the bahamas with steam coming off the roof.. your up there where it gets really cold!.. I've sinced moved to Washington where it doesn't get as cold as when I was in Colorado at 9400' elevation.. which is probably still not as cold as your place.. maybe you should take a good look at another brand of pellet stove.. mine is a Whitfield Advantage.. auto ignite and thermostat.. I only have to clean it once a month and the glass hasn't sooted up yet.. seems to be a great stove.. I had one previous for quite a long time before I finally had problems with the control board.. but.. I bought another.. so that says something for the heat output of the stove..

I wish to share an excerpt from a passage that I just read about using too many pellets...
In any case; if you own a pellet stove and are having problems with over-feeding of pellets, flames that are too tall, etc. -- Go to your dealer and tell them you need a new control box! (After of course you make sure that your stove is clean, and that your thermostat and wire is working correctly)

I believe that's what I said?... check the air flow burn ratio by looking at the flame, but the fella said he had adjusted the air and burn ratio so..... It's not the control board, it sounds like an insufficient pellet stove to me..

Have done all of your suggestions, many times, but no change in comsumption.
I have a new circuit board coming. Hopefully this will cut pellet usage. Thanks for all the help.
