Good Evening Everyone,

I am new to the board, writing threads that is, I have been reading for quite some time. I have a 1911 Craftman style home which currently has a gas fireplace installed in the living room, in the hearth of the old wood burning fireplace. My wife and I would like to remove the gas fireplace and restore the origional wood burning firebox. To this end, I have two questions:

1. Is this possible and what would I be getting myself into?

2. Could I keep the gas outlet and use it as a starter for the wood?

I am a slightly above average do-it-yourselfer, but I will be seeking a liscensed professional for this job. I would just like to know what to expect. Thank you for your replys.
