I noticed a leak on my ceiling below a bathroom and decided to remove the access panel to see the pipes going to the tub. I could see that there was a slight dribble from the overflow. This has also caused the tub to rust around where the pipe meets the overflow connection. It looks like it's been doing this for some time. I live in a house that's 20 years old that I bought last summer so that gives you an idea of how old this tub and plumbing is.
Is there a way to fix this very easily since the tub is rusting or do I need to replace the tub?

There should be a rubber gasket where the pipe meets the tub. It is held in place by the 2 screws that hold the plate of the overflow. Remove the screws and plate and replace the gasket. Knock off any surface rust first and , if necessary, put a thin coat of silicone around the gasket where it meets the tub. Good luck.
