I've replaced some carpeted stairs with oak treads. A local pro shop came up with a stain match by using some of my tread scraps and comparing it to the pre-finished flooring samples that I sent them.
They did a good job with the stain, but for some reason they had no recommendations regarding the polyurethane. They accounted for a slight yellowing when I apply the poly, but I thought it was odd that they wouldn't have an opinion or try to sell me a cover coat (my wife ran this errand for me and she didn't think to ask).
Can someone recommed a good semi-gloss poly that will bear the traffic of a stair case?
