Hi:
I am in the process of doing a fireplace mantel, with wood.
I want to know, if I could do the mantel right to the tip of the fireplace opening or should I leave some space ?
The mantel model I am looking at doesnt have a space..But, I dont know, whether I could follow that exactly.
( From Fireplace and Mantel Ideas by John Lewman page 64).
Thanks a bunch in advance..

You will need to pose that question to a local code official. The answer will
vary according to whether you have a gas-log fireplace, a wood burning
fireplace, a modular (factory built) unit, a masonry (built on-site) unit and
what kind of day your code enforcement person is having.
