Request guidance on how to prepare surface of Formica paneling (installed in bathroom-1965) prior to affixing the heavy liner and then actual wallpaper.
The walls consist of smooth and faux-wood paneling (grooved), with metal strips between seams. I assume I will leave the metal strips exposed and just wallpaper the actual Formica unless you have another suggestion.
Do I sand the Formica to roughen it to receive the paste for the liner or is there a chemical treatment I should use on the walls? Thank you for your assistance.

Here are some products to choose from to size the panels.Lowes has BITE PRIMER or Shieldz Universal Pre-Wallcovering Primer product #2501.Sherwin-Williams will have Roman Adhesive products and the one you will want is R-35.Sand the surface lightly to help the primer stay until dry.You could trim the liner to the metal strips and cover them with paper.
