Good Morning Forum!

We have decided that since we have a huge 2-car garage and we only have 1 car and becuase we need a "fire exit" door for my home daycare business, we wish to replace the garage door with a patio door. The garage door is a bit larger than the patio door framing. Could someone give us the steps needed to complete installation of the patio door in the garage door space?

Thanks so much. This forum is great!!!!!!

I wont say it cant be done, but in my opinion it will never look right. It takes the value away from the home come time to sell.I have framed in walls from the inside to make garages into a room and leave the outside alone so you couldnt tell and could always change back when needed.Patio doors are 5 and 6' standard and the garage you have is probally a 9'x7' so there would be some framing in.If it is a vinyl or wood siding house blending in wouldnt be too bad, but if its brick, i wouldnt even try.It would take major work.Just my 2cents, but without seeing your house its hard to tell.I wouldnt bid on anything like that for my business and doors is my business.

I agree it won't look right, but since it will be smaller in all dimensions it wouldn't be out of the question to undo it if you save all the garage door parts and there were objections by potential buyers, assuming you ever sell

Thanks for the advice. It just seemed easier than putting in a window. Cutting through that concrete block seemed more difficult than putting a door where then was already an opening.

Thanks again.
