I have your typical "over the vanity" type mirror with the two brackets on top and bottom. Any helpful hints on the right way to remove the mirror before I begin prying and yanking?

If there are no screws showing most of the top brackets are spring loaded and push up to let the mirror move out at the top.Keep in mind some glass installers use mirror mastic(glue)along with brackets or mirror buttons. In this case the mirror is unremovable without breaking or at best the mirror film will be damaged.
