I am trying to repair 18 year old wallpaper in my mother's house that is peeling away from the wall. I have used an adhesive and a roller to smooth out the seam but it took over 30 minutes for just about 3 feet of seam. Is there a better method to try when there are large areas to be repaired?

This is how I do large or small gluedown jobs...Pull back paper and using a spray bottle wet the existing paste. On all but commercial vinyl wet the back of the paper also.Let it soften 5 minutes or so.Apply new paste to the wall and just as it begins to tack smooth out.Use whatever paste you would hang the paper with if it was a new job and for difficult projects use vinyl over vinyl or border glue. The water sprayed on does a couple of things. It melts the paste on the wall reducing the ridge that may show where you stopped your new paste and allows the paper to expand increasing the chances of the paper meeting at the seems. If the paper is stiff at the edges the heat from a blow dryer is helpful. On very tough jobs you may find it helpful to follow this method 5 or 6 sheets at a time.If you catch the seems at just the right time they will almost always lay down.
