Can you take an existing kitchen cabinet door and have a handyman or cabinet maker cut out a panel from it and install clear glass instead? I want to update some of my kitchen cabinets by having glass doors, but I also want to keep the standard shape and off-white color that they are without having to redo everything!

Any other suggestions would be most welcome.

Thank you! :)

Depending upon how the door is made, yes, it is possible. I would NOT suggest you have a handyman do it. I would go to a custom cabinetmaker. Expect to pay $50-100.00 per door for the labor involved. That does not include the glass.

I've done that on some doors and Mike is right on about who should do it and the price. It's a tricky job and one slip can be really ugly.

Did I mention that I did slip once and had to make a new door (on MY dime  ) Thank the gods that the homeowner had some leftover paint.

Thanks for adding that point about "One Slip" Dave. You're Absolutely Correct! Especially if the profile is from a company who uses their own knives and can't find the profiles anywhere. It sure doesn't seem like a big job, but one boo boo can cause a world of mess.

Good point about the profiles. When I made my mistake, it was on a door with a common profile and I had the cutters I needed to duplicate it. The $$ cost was low, but it took a few hours to make the new door. The whole thing raised my paranoia level and I now approach these jobs with a great deal of caution. :D
