:coffee: I'm buying a couple 3.5 hp side shaft engines at a good price and was wondering who has this size on there go cart and how much power it has? I know this isnt a very big motor but maybe I could build a small cart. My current project is a off road buggie with 4 wheeler suspension, 12 hp engine with reverse. Planning on posting pics on my site in the next few days if anyone is interested. Also if someone needs help with go cart plans I might can help them out with some ideas. www.freewebs.com/minifoundry . give me a few days to get the pics up, very busy lately.

Unlike the 5 hp briggs and strattons that offer after market performance parts and monifications. The 3.5s can be adapted to karts thru porting and polishing, a carb bore , re-jet, a good hone and setting the new ring end gap to .005. you will however need to play with the clutching and gear ratios. have fun :coffee:

3.5s are pretty hard to use on the application that you have. not much power to them.

I have one on a small one seater homebuilt kart and it's plenty fun. Make sure your gear ratios are on the lower side as the 3.5 doesn't have loads of torque. I'm 165 pounds and the kart's probably 150 and the little engine pushes me all around the yard and is a lot of fun in the mud. I'll probably uprade later to a 5 or 8 HP, but if you've found a good price for a 3.5 go for it.
