Hi,

I'm desigining a cabinet, which my grandfather is going to build for me, but I want a particular type of 'door' on it. However, I'm not sure what the door type is called, if it has a name, and my grandfather doesn't know where you would get one from.

THere's a picture here (http://www.oakworthmethodists.org/pics/Cabinet2.jpg) of the style I'm looking for - it's the up-and-over section on the right.

Any ideas what its called, and/or where I might find further information on it and/or where I might buy it (custom ordered or otherwise)

The cabinet is for an audio/visual Rack installation in a church.

Thanks in advance,

Peter Howarth

It's called Tambor Door. You can make your own by using a heavy canvas and thin strips of wood. It's not really something you can just buy, that I know of.

Thanks Mike.

I didn't think you'd be able to buy them, but at least I can look around for ideas now.

Thanks again,

Peter.

You can get the kits for these. They are used on roll top desks and entertainment centers.

Thanks.

I'll have a look around.

It's a pc workstation unit that I got the idea off (as you noticed if you looked at the picture), so I wondered if you might be able to.

Anything is possible. Remember that the door rolls up and down the back side. If the depth is shorter than the hieght, it will have to roll down the back side of the cabinet to get it all the way open. Don't knock the cables off the back of the PC.

It isn't going to be a pc workstation that I'm using it for - it's a Rack Cabinet as used in the a/v industry. Mixers/amps/cd players/effects units.... There'll be plenty of space behind the units for access to cables and switches, never mind the door chopping them off :)

Thanks for pointing out that it goes down the back - I knew about it, but I could just as easily not have done.

Check Rockler's, I think they used to sell tambor kits.

Peter,

Tambour kits are available from Rockler and other places. Do a Google Search for tambour door kits, and you'll come up with some ideas. Make sure you spell it right, otherwise you'll come up with some automotive stuff.

That's why I couldn't find anything :)

Cheers
