will it make much difference to reduce the stove pipe down to 6" from 8"?..the stove takes 8'' but i can only get 6'' pipe and a 6 to 8 reducer.

If the stove has an 8" discharge, it is probably required. One other thing to inquire about is insurance. Where I live, to have a stove (versus fireplace) I have to have it inspected by the insurance company in order to be covered and also....BIG ALSO...pay 10% more a year for insurance. check out all the variables. Look in the phone book there . Any sheet metal shop will have that 8" pipe for you. in no way cut it down to 6". Also as them for a cast iron damper to put in the smoke pipe there. It helps you control the fire with it and the front draft the stove has.
