hey guys....

i have begun to do some work downstairs, and will need to make some adjustments in order to get my joists level.

a guy at the local building shop recommened slate shims, but i do recall somebody else mentioning steel shims. i just can't stand working with the slate..... :wall:

any idea where i might find steel shims?

thanks...

I would just use cedar shims, you can buy them in a bundle in any lumber yard or home center. Make sure you're getting the cedar for leveling work, they will last forever, the smaller softwood shims are just for window/door alignments these are much shorter and are also in a bundle, but are wrapped in plastic, this isn't what you want. The cedar shims will just be tied up with a plastic band or two and are about 10"-12" long.
