Hi All,
I installed a 3000 Kenmore for a friend. I have installed many Aprilaire units in the past but they were all of the 24v variety, this Kenmore is a 110 unit, I believe I have it hooked up right, to the 110 humidifier legs on the furnace controll board so it only gets power when the furnace blower is on.
The problem is my friend says that it has never came on and he has the humidistat set to the highest setting! Everything seems to work as it should when you have the humidistat set to test, when the furnace kicks on it turns the humidifier on. but it gets nothing set anywhere else!
Would this be a problem with the humidistat?
And before anyone asks, the house is very dry, Kids with nose bleeds, dry skin, gaps in the woodwork, the whole nine yards!
Thanks in advance,
DPlumber

For right now check the wire lay out with a meter and see if you have power. To all points ,yes see if humidistat calls or works

Thanks for the reply Ed,
I've checked the wiring to the install instructions and it seems right, and it all works in test mode....Is there a way to test the humidistat, like maybe putting it in freezer or someplace ultra dry and then checking across the switch with an ohmmeter?

Thanks

Does this unit have an outdoor sensor?

Turn power off put jumper on the humidistat turn power back on and fire furnace. This will tell you if it is the humidistat.

Can you explain what you meant by "put jumper on humidistat"?
Do you mean to bypass the humidistat by tying the hot legs together?
If so wouldnt that be the same thing as using "TEST" on humidistat dial?

Should be and if it runs jumped get a new tstat. Can pull the power wires off it and meter it as you turn it up and down to see if it turns on or not.

Inside the back of the humidistat there is a small set screw (perpendicular and next to the back of the dial shaft) which adjusts the tension on the humidity adjusting strip (looks like a strip of clear plastic) and in turn toggles the switch.

From your description, the set screw needs to be adjusted in.

Turn off the A/C and take the humidistat out. Listen to the humidistat as you turn the dial. If you hear a click only when the dial gets all the way to test, it is out of calibration (unless you have a soaking wet house).

Turn the dial between low and medium and adjust the set screw in until you hear the click. Rotate the dial back and forth to make sure it is clicking the switch at that point (between low and medium)

This is a rough calibration based on what you said about your humidity level in the house, but should solve the problem.

Being an electrical engineer, I tend to collect a lot of useless information.
