McNair4x4,

By definition, a mansion is a luxury home that has greater than 2500 square feet. Obviously, many homes that one assumes would be a mansion would be ones over 5,000 sqft but that is not how one assumes what a mansion is.

Depending on specifics, a luxury home or mansion can usually be identified by the extras such as his and her walk in closets, large master bedroom suites, 3 or more full bathrooms, custom cabinentry, exotic woods and floorings and home theater media room. Usually it is a large imposing home that exhibits the wealth of the owner.

These homes can be very expensive for their size, even starting at 2500 sqft. Best thing to do is do a web search or visit your local library for more info.

Hope this helps!
