Thx. for reading my post guys. If it's in the wrong section, can a mod move it but I didn't find any stairs topic here.
My project is...... I want to tackle replacing my basement stairs (now cheap wood), with an oak staircase. I think I understand that if I can get under my stairs (which for me is very accessible), I can take the tops and riser off by banging the nails or staples out from underneath ? If I do this, does this mean that all I have left is the stringers ?
If this is the case, I like that idea. My plan is to buy enough laminate (for the inside sides of the stairs), and at Home Depot, buy the topers and risers in oak. I've stained my main staircase w/o any problem so I'm not worried about that.
Just wanted to know if this is what has to be done. I've already got drywall finished so I'm hoping the stringers can stay b/c right now the drywall is sitting on top of the stringers.
