We want/need glass doors on our masonry fireplace. The chimney sweep wants $600 for the doors, plus labor. Home Depot stocks doors for $140 (yes, cheap no doubt but we don't need anything fancy, just want to keep cat/kids out of the fireplace!).

Can you install glass doors yourself? How hard is it? Any information online to help me?

Thanks!

Make sure of the size of your opening and ask to read the installation instructions at the Depot. This will insure that you have all the info you need and that it CAN be done without huge alterations to your fireplace. I put doors on my old Franklin stove but they were MADE for that type stove and the size opening. It is a DIY project as long as you know what you need to do it. Good luck.
